How We Raise Money and Where Your Money Goes

Thank you for your interest in the work of Fighting Blindness.  Because of you, our supporters, we are ever closer to the goal of finding treatments and cures for blindness.

Please be assured that Fighting Blindness holds itself to the highest standards it can and considers itself to be an honest and transparent organisation.  Our audited accounts are available as part of our annual report each year which is presented at the Annual General Meeting (AGM), and signed off by independent auditors.

Fighting Blindness Income:

  • 10% Public Funding – from the HSE and the Health Research Board (HRB).
  • 90% Fundraising –raised through a mix of regular giving donations, community fundraisers, corporate support and events & challenges.

Where your Important Donation is used:

Cure – investment in research

In 2015, €692,618 was invested in vital vision research in Ireland, including gene and cell therapies, compound therapies and population studies.

Support – investment in counselling and support groups

In 2015, €118,907 was invested in counselling services for people affected by sight loss and their families. This service is currently available in Leinster and Muster, and available nationally through a telephone counselling line, phone: 01 674 6496.

Empower – investment in education, outreach and advocacy

In 2015 we invested €136,024 in the empowerment of our members and communities through education and the provision of information, striving to bridge the gap between patients and organisations involved in potential therapies.
