This famous trek along the Inca trail to reach Machu Picchu, offers an unrivaled combination of stunning scenery and amazing culture. Words cannot describe the feeling of setting eyes on these impressive ruins for the first time. Our itinerary includes four days of trekking along the classic Inca Trail.
The route takes us through a huge diversity of habitat with stunning mountain vistas, alpine meadows, lush sub-tropical valleys and ancient cloud forest. We pass through many Inca sites and villages learning about the Andean culture. Before we set off on the trail we will spend a night in a traditional Andean village immersing ourselves in the Peruvian way of life. Day 1: Dublin to Lima.
Depart Dublin for Lima. Overnight hotel.
Day 2: Lima to Cusco (3,400m).
Fly from Lima to Cusco. Acclimatisation & sightseeing day. Overnight hotel.
Day 3: Porters Village.
Hike into a local village to learn about the Peruvian way of life. Overnight camp.
Day 4: Cusco to Huayllabamba (3,000m), six hours trekking.
Drive to Piscacucho and then trek to Huayllabamba. Overnight camp.
Day 5: Huayllabamba to Pacaymayo (3,590m), seven hours trekking.
Trek over Wamiwanusca pass (4,205m) to reach Pacaymayo. Overnight camp.
Day 6: Pacaymayo to Winaywayna (2,700m), eight hours trekking.
Trek over the Runkurakay Pass to reach Winaywayna. Overnight camp.
Day 7: Winaywayna to Machu Picchu to Cusco, three hours trekking
Trek to Machu Picchu in the morning. After a guided tour of the ruins we return to Cusco. Overnight hotel.
Day 8: Cusco to Lima.
Fly Cusco to Lima. Depart Lima in the evening for Dublin. Overnight flight.
Day 9: Lima to Dublin
Arrive back in Dublin in the evening. Expedition ends.
