We were delighted to be joined by 250 glittering guests for our 2016 Sporting Lunch, including sporting legends Willie Mullins, Mick Galwey, Fiona Coughlan, Philip Doyle, Jason Smyth and Nicky English. Broadcaster Ivan Yates as MC lent his own brand of cheeky humour to the event.
Paralympic champion Jason Smyth was the recipient of this year’s Empowerment Award, kindly sponsored by Novartis. Jason has been a wonderful ambassador to Fighting Blindness over the last couple of years, doing so much to aid the Fighting Blindness mission to Cure, Support and Empower.
On receiving the award Jason said: “It is an honour and a pleasure to win this award and to work with Fighting Blindness. We are here for a similar reason, to give that support, work towards that cure, help people with sight loss to change their lives. It is this kind of support that gives people like myself struggling with visual impairment or no sight at all that hope for something better tomorrow.”
Many thanks to our sponsors, contributors and all involved in the event, who helped raise an incredible €50,000 for Fighting Blindness. For more information about any of our fundraising activities get in touch on 01 6789 004 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
