Visionaries – Summer 2014

Image of Anna MoranWelcome From Anna Moran, External Affairs Manager

A warm summer welcome to our latest edition of Visionaries. The office has been busier than ever over the last couple of months as we prepare to move to a new premises. More importantly however, we are busy with activities that are enabling us to fund research into eye conditions, provide counselling, and work with policy makers to empower patients. With new developments in research bringing our members ever closer to clinical trials, we are ensuring that we are prepared, informed and acting at the highest levels to create access to emerging therapies.

Staff delegates attended the Retina International World Congress in Paris at the end of June. This conference takes place every two years and gathers the most progressive scientists and clinicians along with international patient organisations. It is always an informative event where we hear about global developments in clinical trials and from patients who have participated in the studies.

We have been busy working with other stakeholder organisations to raise awareness about diabetic macular edema (DME), a form of diabetic retinopathy that can have a severe effect on vision.

The Insight Counselling Centre continues to grow. We are delighted to provide this vital service and encourage you to get in touch if you feel it may be of benefit.

We have lots of fundraising events taking place over the summer. Whether it’s running, cycling, or shaking buckets, supporters all over the country are joining our team to cure, support and empower people living with sight loss.

Thank you for your continued support.
