To mark turning fifty, Tony Ward, Head of Fundraising, took on the New York City Marathon in support of Fighting Blindness.
“I had the very unique experience of taking part in the New York marathon on Sunday, November 1. Whereas I missed my target time by a few minutes, and it was a tough course, I can look back now with a certain amount of satisfaction on running through the streets of the five New York boroughs with over 50,000 other runners.
The crowds were amazing in their support. I had four guides to help on the day and I needed every one of them as it was a very congested race so just finding a space in the crowd was very difficult. Thanks to everyone for their good wishes and for supporting my fundraising for Fighting Blindness – I am very happy to be able to say I have raised over €30,000 so far and my fundraising is still open for anyone who wants to donate, visit www.FightintgBlindness.ie or contact the office.” – Tony Ward.
